From a Heartbreak to a Plant-Based Life

I didn’t grow up vegan. I was raised in a small town in Oregon where meat and dairy were part of every meal. But when I was 22, my mother was diagnosed with a heart condition related to her diet and lifestyle. That experience changed everything for me.

Watching her recovery and learning how powerful food can be — both as harm and as healing — opened my eyes. I began reading, learning, cooking. I started replacing ingredients, testing new flavors, and somewhere along the way, I fell in love with the world of plant-based food.

Who I Am and Why I Created Vegan Recipes Kitchen

My name is Sophie Greenfield, and I’m the creator of Vegan Recipes Kitchen. I’m not a trained chef. I’m not perfect. But I’m passionate, curious, and deeply committed to making plant-based food accessible, enjoyable, and stress-free.

This website started as a collection of handwritten recipes and personal notes. It became a project, then a purpose. Today, Vegan Recipes Kitchen is my way of sharing what I’ve learned with others — whether you’re fully vegan, just curious, or somewhere in between.

What This Site Is All About

Vegan Recipes Kitchen is built around three simple principles:

I believe that eating plant-based doesn’t have to be difficult, expensive, or extreme. It can be joyful, practical, and even fun.

Why I Care So Much

This is about more than food. It’s about health, sustainability, and compassion — for ourselves, for animals, and for the planet. Through every recipe I share, I hope to inspire small changes that lead to a bigger impact.

My mother’s journey taught me that what we eat matters. It affects not just our bodies, but how we feel, how we live, and how we connect to others. This site is my way of helping people discover the same thing, one recipe at a time.
